DIVING IN THE MALDIVES
Enhance your honeymoon with a little adventure

I remembered several years ago flying on a seaplane in the Maldives, seated on the front seat when the pilot
turned around to me and shouted “manta rays on the right!” I instantly looked out the window of the Twin Otter
propeller plane and spotted two manta rays with 5-metre long wingspans swimming gracefully in the ocean. I was
gobsmacked! The islands are governed by two seasons- mainly wet and dry seasons. The best time to visit is from
February to April. During this time of the year, the skies are blue and the sea is calm. Avoid monsoon seasons in the
months of November to December and May to June as there are higher chances of torrential rain and strong wind.
The beauty of Maldives isn’t just defined by its crystalline waters but also its thriving underwater kingdom. The
corals are colourful, the fish plentiful and strong current is inviting for big pelagic fish. The diving is marvellous
making it a bucket list destination for scuba divers around the world. The dive sites teem with marine life, like the
Wall Street of fish and crustaceans out and about with their businesses! Drop in the water and within five breaths you
will be greeted by playful clown fish swimming around your masks, cuttlefish changing colours displaying its mood,
turtles swimming freely and colourful corals brighter than a tie dye. It is an inexpressible joy possibly like seeing a
National Geographic documentary happening in front of your eyes.
