HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS
Georgetown, PenangPenang is proud of its status as a World Heritage Site. The state has made 7
July Georgetown World Heritage Day to celebrate the culture and history of
its capital city, although celebrations last three days. This year’s theme will be
“Let’s Celebrate: Rituals and Festive Events,” focusing on commemorations of
significant events like births, weddings, funeral ceremonies, and important
celebrations to honour deities. There will be activities centred around history
and cultures that define Penang life today. Expect traditional food, arts and
crafts, and cultural festivities that deepen your understanding of Penang
past and present. Local communities will be actively participating in sharing
endangered customs and rituals with visitors.
