Townes Van Zandt, Van Cliburn, T-Bone
Burnett, and Leon Bridges hail from Fort
Worth. On September 27, 2017 Fort Worth
was designated the first music-friendly city in
Texas by the Texas Music Office, Office of
the Governor’s “Music-Friendly Communi-
ties” certification program. There’s a musical
renaissance taking place in the city. Plan your

Denton County boasts three downtown
museums, including the historic Court-
house-on-the-Square Museum, the Bay-
less-Selby House, and the Denton County
African American Museum (located at the
Denton County Historical Park).
This year the Courthouse-on-the-Square
Museum celebrates its 40th anniversary!
Visit the museum gallery to explore the
exhibit 40 For 40: Forty Artifacts for Forty
Years and see unique items that represent
Denton County history. Design a quilt
square and play in the vintage grocery store.
View the historic Commissioners Court-
room on the second floor and see rotating
exhibits throughout the building.
Rock ‘n’ roll fans, check out UNT on the
Square and the MCL Grand to see the
exhibit The Texas International Pop Festival:
50 Years Later celebrating the anniversary of
Texas’s own Woodstock.
Denton County museums are always free

heyday of the cotton fields in the 1800s to
the battlefields of the 20th century. Learn
