handmade pulley maids.
There’s a community
environment, with makers
beside hobbyists and those
new to the craft. There’s also
a classroom where courses
are taught by professional
artists, plus an adjoining
studio for 22 career makers.
Not forgetting a kitchen,
eating and break area with
bespoke tiles in Turning
Earth colours by Sarah Hall.

THE POSITIVE

PLANNER

Essays, doodles and notes in
colourful pens, expressions
of feelings and moments –
journalling allows freedom of
thought, patterns to emerge
and ideas to bloom. Guiding
you with daily inspiration The
Positive Planner is a gratitude
journal to encourage greater
self-discovery and mental
wellbeing. It includes daily
intentions, reflections, meal
planners, calendars, mood
trackers, mindful activities
and positive affirmations.
The idea is for you to use the
planner as you wish, try the
exercises and see how they
work for you. A DIY therapist
in a yellow jacket to send a
boost, give a hug, or evoke
calm. Daily self-care to fit in to
your life and your backpack.

SUNHAT

ESSENTIAL

It’s important to keep safe
from the sun’s powerful rays,
so a sunhat like Toast’s Clara
straw hat, handwoven with
100 per cent palm leaves and
with a wide floppy brim, is
ideal. The palm is sourced
from farm collectives in
Mexico, who grow it to
subsidise their earnings.
Stylish and strong, whether
on the beach, picking berries
in sun-drenched fields or
touring the city, you will stay
cool under its shade. Pack
one of Toast’s floaty floral

dresses and some cat-eye
sunglasses and you’ll have all
you need for an elegant and
cool summer. toa.st/uk

GEOLOGICAL

WONDER

Tsingy de Bemaraha National
Park is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, situated in
the Melaky Region on the
western coast of Madagascar.
The park is full of limestone
needles, canyons, lakes,
mangrove swamps, forests
and diverse wildlife. It is
because of its incredible
landscape that it’s so difficult
to reach. In fact it was mostly
inaccessible until the 1990s,
when Antsika Association
members together with help
from locals, created a set of
aerial suspension bridges,
steel cables, pegs and
ladders, which can be used
with the correct climbing
equipment and guidance.

FRENCH INSPIRED

IN FROME

The cobbled streets of
Frome’s St Catherine’s
Quarter are full of pretty
antique and vintage clothing
shops, cafés, florists with
hand-tied bunches of flowers
outside, and linen-filled
lifestyle stores. If you go to
the top of St Catherine’s Hill,
you will find Bistro Lotte, a
French-inspired restaurant
and B&B. The building dates
back to 1908, the façade
has Grocery and Provision
Stores written in gold, while
below is a strip of coloured
chequered glass and the
words, Café and Grill. Now
as Bistro Lotte it’s a relaxed
haven for good food and
wine, with a simple and chic
muted palette and huge
windows, wooden panels
and high ceilings. The six
bedrooms are just as chilled
with pastel colours, botanical
artwork and sumptuous
beds. bistrolottefrome.co.uk
