FLEABAG
AND CLAIRE
The relationship between sisters Fleabag (Phoebe
Waller-Bridge) and Claire (Sian Clifford) is succinct,
raw and always to the core. They truly know each
other and have an empathy, rolling annoyance and
love for one another. There is a triumph in their bond,
which with a perfectly timed and honest comment
can thaw the ice between them within seconds; from
feeling extreme discomfort, tragedy and sadness, to
remembering the force of power that resides in their
sisterhood. For example, Claire says to Fleabag in
a cold miserable taxi: “The priest is quite hot.” And
Fleabag’s instant reply: “So hot.” Filling the taxi with
a knowing warmth, a lightening strike on complete
misery, a bolt of love, honesty and humour. As well as
Fleabag’s loyal: “Hair is EVERYTHING,” bellowed at
the hairdresser who made Claire “look like a pencil”.
Not forgetting Claire’s beautiful line to Fleabag: “The
only person I’d run through an airport for is you.”
Fleabag, written and created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, BBC
Claire: “What the hell,
you look incredible.”
Fleabag: “No matter what
I do with my hair it just
keeps falling in this
really chic way.”
Claire: “Oh god.”
Fleabag: “You look perfect.”
Claire: “Thank you.”

written worlds which
provided solace and
helped them escape
the isolation of
their home lives.
