NATURAL

CONNECTIONS

The ethos behind online
store and blog Chalk and
Moss is focused on bringing
nature into your home.
Founder Anna Sjöström
Walton is an expert in
biophilic design – a concept
which brings nature into the
built environment through
natural light, greenery and
natural materials. Anna
explains: “Biophilic design
is all about finding every
opportunity in life to connect
with nature. Research proves
that surrounding ourselves
with natural elements such
as plants and plant-based
products, can reduce stress
hormone production and
help to counteract our fast-
moving digital lives.” Her
product range is sourced
from ethical brands such
as The Organic Company,
Luks Linen and Join candles,
and her blog offers useful
resources on topics such as
forest bathing and how to use
Furoshiki gift wrap fabric.

GET A CLEAN

CONSCIENCE

Indoors, disposable wipes
have become a concerning
environmental issue, as big
companies have developed
throwaway wipes for not
just babies’ bottoms, but
removing make-up, washing
hands, cleaning your toilet
or kitchen floor. Our need
for convenience has pushed
us towards these single-
use items in all areas of our
lives, but we are all aware
that change is needed.
Small brand Vesta Living
has developed a range
of reusable wipes for all
of these tasks, which can
simply be soaked in water or
used with a cleaning spray
for surfaces or cleanser for
your face. They can even
be wrapped around your
kitchen roll holder for easy

access in the kitchen. Simply
wash with the rest of your
laundry when required.

RECYCLED AND

RELOVED

Shopping online for our
homes offers us great ease
and convenience, but if
you’d rather look at how
you can decorate your living
spaces without spending
a fortune or impacting the
planet, then take a leaf out
of recently published book
The Foraged Home. Brother
and sister team Joanna and
Oliver Maclennan visited a
host of home owners around
the globe who have rejected
mass production and have
used the great outdoors as
a place to gather and source
for their interiors. Joanna’s
beautiful photographs
have captured the essence
of the spaces they visited,
while Oliver’s words convey
perfectly the stories of those
behind the unusual homes
featured. Published by
Thames and Hudson, £24.95.

DITCH THE

PLASTIC POTS

Alternatives to single-use
plastics are thankfully
popping up everywhere,
and if you’ve been in the
garden this summer you
might have realised the
number of plastic plant pots
you’ve been squirrelling
away. One plan of action
is to keep re-using those
pots, but when it comes to
the point of needing new
ones, instead opt for a paper
potter. These handy wooden
tools allow you to make pots
from old newspaper to plant
your seeds and plug plants,
and last around six weeks,
enough time for them to be
ready for planting out. They
come in two different sizes
and are designed and made
in the UK using FSC oak.

COASTAL CHIC

INTERIORS

If the summer months have
you dreaming of a life by
the sea but it is currently an
impossibility, then why not
try to emulate the look of a
coastal home instead? This is
what founder of online store
Hunter & Co aims to do with
her collection. Tammy Gow
launched her business after
feeling that the UK interiors
market lacked diversity
and did not represent the
stylish coastal aesthetic she
craved. Her range is heavily
influenced by the coastal
towns in California, the
Hamptons, Australia and
South Africa, with neutral
colours mixing with soft
blues and greens and natural
fibres contrasting with raw
wood. We love that we
haven’t come across Tammy’s
selection of designers and
artists anywhere else.

START A SELF-

CARE RITUAL

It was Katy Theakston’s
love of ancient rituals that
led her to start her own
business – The Owl and the
Apothecary. It was these
rituals, as well as the Dorset
countryside, that inspired
her products, all aimed to
improve your wellbeing. Her
ritual kits – either Wellbeing
or Abundance – include a
homegrown and homemade
smudge stick, a beeswax
candle, a crystal and an
essential oils pulse point,
to indulge both your home
and yourself in a little bit
of self-care. Whether it
accompanies you during a
yoga or meditation session
or while you unwind in the
evening, this little box of
goodies is a great way to
tap into the good energy
surrounding you in your
living space, or to take
with you on your travels.
