TechnogymTo celebrate Wallpaper’s immersion into the
world of fitness and wellbeing, Technogym
created a special version of its celebrated
Kinesis machine. A collaboration between
Technogym’s own research team and
architect Antonio Citterio, the iconic home
fitness design allows more than 200 different
exercises in just one square metre of space.
For the ‘Black Onyx’ edition, the front
aluminium panel was handcrafted by Italian
artisans in a new reflective black, while
the mechanical elements were rendered
in a contrasting matt black.
Technogym
Technogym was founded in 1983 by Nerio
Alessandri, who built his first pieces of fitness
equipment in his garage with the help of
his brother Pierluigi. Today, the Italian brand
has turned into a global empire, equipping
over 65,000 wellness centres and 100,000
homes worldwide with its state-of-the-art
treadmills, exercise bikes and cross-trainers.

Theseus Chan and Riva 1920From books to guitars and skateboards, wood
has been a recurring passion in the life of
graphic designer Theseus Chan, who chose
to focus on the material for his first product
design, created in collaboration with Riva- Chan looked into the healing properties
of wood, and created a series of functional
sculptures that are part beautiful domestic
objects, part practical bookends.

Singapore-based Chan’s work spans the visual
arts, architecture, typography, printmaking,
music and fashion. In 2001, he created Werk,
a menswear publication with a subversive
approach to graphic design and typography.

Italy, Riva 1920 has blossomed into a fully
fledged furniture company that works with
more than 100 designers and architects and
across three production facilities in Italy.

unification of mind and body to improve
wellbeing. Inspired by the work of Romanian
sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, Gebrüder
Thonet Vienna and Charles Kalpakian
worked together to create a sculptural
apparatus made of dual-tone solid beech
and comprising two elements: a spine-like
support structure of undulating sculpted
curves and sleek rounded rungs.

Lebanese-born, Paris-based Kalpakian
specialises in product and interior design,
finding inspiration in both traditional
Lebanese decorative arts and street art.

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna
Founded in 1853, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna
is best known for its classic steam-bent chairs
and rattan seats. The Austrian company has
also embarked on a series of collaborations
with designers such as Front and GamFratesi.

diffuser in the 1990s, its design has varied
little from the original formula of porous
sticks arranged in a scent-filled bottle like
a posy of flowers. It was time for a rethink, so
we teamed Culti Milano with Sara Ricciardi,
a young creative known for her innovative
vase designs. Taking inspiration from Roman
and Greek temples, Ricciardi created mini-
structures from brass and glass ‘columns’
filled with Culti Milano’s colour-coded reeds.

Based in Milan, Ricciardi runs a workshop
researching traditional manufacturing
methods and is co-founder of La Lattoneria,
a company creating metal-sheet products.

Culti Milano
Founded in 1990 by Milanese interior designer
Alessandro Agrati, inventor of the reed
diffuser, Culti Milano offers a selection of
diffusers, home sprays and scented candles.

curved metal curtain is designed as a shield
from everyday stresses. Formed from metallic
mesh in a nod to Paco Rabanne’s heritage, the
curtain hangs from a freestanding structure
over 2m high, creating an enclosed temporary
area for rest and relaxation.

The Brussels-based architecture practice’s
output spans masterplanning and furniture
design, and commissions include an HQ
for Belgian broadcaster RTBF. It has been
collaborating with Paco Rabanne since 2015.

A leader in the Space Age fashion
movement of the 1960s, Paco Rabanne
became renowned for its futuristic flair.
Julien Dossena was made creative director
of the Parisian house in 2013, updating
its signature chainmail designs using
innovative materials and contemporary forms.

meditation, designer Christopher Jenner has
had plenty of time to consider the ultimate
accessories for the Buddhist technique. His
bench is specifically designed for the classic
kneeling Seiza posture, while the altar offers
‘a centred space to inspire a reverent frame of
mind’. The hand-polished aluminium designs
can be disassembled into six pieces for easy
storage. The way the elements slot seamlessly
back together without nails or clamps is
almost as satisfying as the meditation itself.

South African designer Jenner opened his
multidisciplinary studio in London in 2010.
His output includes product, furniture,
retail and hospitality design, as well as craft.
