Special brew

‘Bain Culinaire’ bath blends, by Studio
Appétit, Quinteassential and Laufen

Studio Appétit
Ido Garini’s Arnhem-based studio
focuses on the culinary arts, working
on objects, food installations and edible
cosmetics to make us examine how
we experience food. studioappetit.com

Quinteassential
This British company was founded
by Bernadine Tay, a consultant with
a background in biomedical science
who has developed tea experiences
for Amanda Wakeley, Wedgwood
and more. quinteassential.co.uk

Laufen
Synonymous with bathroom innovation,
this Swiss company has enlisted
luminaries such as Patricia Urquiola
to create ranges in its breakthrough
material, SaphirKeramik. laufen.com

When Ido Garini hit on the idea of
designing a ‘teabag’ for the bath,
he wanted to make sure his creation
was sustainable. So, with the help
of Laufen, he created a caddy and
some accompanying accessories using
stainless steel and Corian. We then
tasked Quinteassential, an expert in
the therapeutic qualities of herbs,
to create three blends that soothe and
salve as you soak in the tub: Focus
(with centring Japanese sencha, lemon
verbena and sweet passion flower herb);
Refresh (smoky Yunnan pu-erh, cedar
wood and basil); and Breathe (mediative
Chinese oolong with sandalwood).
