CASE STUDY: NICE LIFE IN NICE,
EVEN WITHOUT A CAR

Life without a car is no problem for
Carolyn Reynier, who has lived on her
own in Nice since 2006 and rents a studio
apartment in an old hotel near the
Promenade des Anglais.
“I am thrilled to be able to do
everything on foot,” says the writer, a
regular FPN contributor. “For me the great
joy is being able to walk a minute or two
to have an early morning swim in the sea.
I can walk easily to the opera house and
the old town, to the port, the Place
Garibaldi and the train station. We have
an excellent bus and tram system (€1 in
town, €1.50 to Monaco or Cannes) and
the second tram line opens soon. One
section, from Magnan to the airport, is
already open and there will be a stop
near me.”
Carolyn travels by train, bus or boat to
resorts along the coast such as St-Tropez
and takes a bus into the Mercantour hills
with friends to go skiing or hiking. Even
the city’s international airport is within
walking distance!
For people without a car, she
particularly recommends the lower
section of Gambetta, around Place
Garibaldi, the port and places close to the
train station and 100 (Monaco-Menton) or
200 (Antibes-Cannes) bus routes.
