10 questions with

Garance Doré

First impressions of your home?
“I felt something immediately and I can
still feel it. It felt calm, and without even
knowing, that’s what I was looking for.”
What attracted you to the area?
“The air, the ocean, the walking culture!
There’s a healing vibe. I found a sense
of peace. I can stop and breathe here.”
Any renovating challenges? “Time
and budget. More time equals a bigger
budget! We pretty much succeeded.”
Did you live here during the reno?
“I couldn’t – I realised how stressful it is.
I hired a friend to oversee all the work.”
Do you have future reno plans?
“Yes! When you own a house you never
stop! I want to renovate my backyard.”
What inspired the overall look?
“European islands, but sophisticated.
I love Greek and Moroccan houses.”
Does it reflect your own style?
“In so many ways. The main one is the
ease I’m cultivating in the way I dress.”
How did you incorporate colour?
“I wanted more! Sarah was like, ‘you
need to relax’ and chose earthy tones.
So the pops of colour are the accents.”
Did you own the furniture? “I didn’t
own much, and this was Sarah’s most
crucial job – to source amazing things.”
What is your home’s personality?
“A woman with a warm smile who never
forgets to ask how you’re doing.” R

Fresh start Although Garance only wanted to make cosmetic changes to her home,
she had a wall separating the living room and the kitchen knocked down to make
the space feel open and bright. Sensual healing Earthy tones bring warmth to the
bathroom (left and above) in the form of custom timber storage, Delta Faucet tapware
in Champagne Bronze, a Block Shop Textiles rug and a tub-side Perigold end table.
