What’s the last great thing
you watched?
The Night Manager, which I hadn’t
seen when it came out. It’s terrific.
Really well done. I was approached
about a spy-thriller thing, but
I couldn’t really wrap my head
around it, because it felt like a cross
between The End Of The Affair and
Tom Clancy and I thought, “How do
these go together?” But I watched
The Night Manager and I was like,
“Oh, this is how you do it.”

How about in the cinema?
The last movie I watched was
Venom, primarily because I heard
everybody saying how bad it was.
And I really liked it! I don’t
understand the critical definitions
anymore. Thor: Ragnarok is 99 per
cent on Rotten Tomatoes and Venom
is, like, 30 per cent. But
I think, “They both seem like pretty
good superhero movies to me.”
And I love Tom Hardy...

When we last met, you said you’d
played Dungeons & Dragons...
Oh, it was maybe eight years ago.
My friends and I tried to get into
Pathfinder [a D&D-a-like fantasy
role-playing game]. But I would be
Dungeon Master and... put in all this
work and do all the voices, and then
my asshole friends would go
off-script and go off to the next city,
or get drunk [laughs]. So I was not
very good at it. DAN JOLIN

STRANGER THINGS 3 IS ON NETFLIX NOW

DAVID HARBOUR

1 __ The next film in ‘Sony’s Universe of
Marvel Characters’, after the surprise
success of Venom, Morbius promises to
be a “horror action” about lesser-known
comic anti-hero Michael Morbius, the
scientist who accidentally turns himself
into a vampire.

2 __ Jared Leto will play the brooding
bloodsucker, one of many actors to make
the jump from DC to Marvel after his
brief stint as the Joker.

3 __ Leto has been teasing his role on
social media, including a post in April
which revealed his costume, with the
cryptic caption: “Because no one else will
walk this path... this place of shadows,
where we do what must be done, no
matter the cost.”

4 __ Matt Smith will play Loxias Crown,
Morbius’ bestie-turned-baddie. Smith
was reluctant to join a superhero movie,
until fellow Doctor Who pal Karen
Gillan persuaded him otherwise. “She
told me that she really likes it, making
[superhero] movies,” Smith told the
LA Times. “That was enough for me.”

5 __ Also in the cast are Adria Arjona,
Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson — who
revealed on Instagram he has signed
a three-picture deal.

6 __ Swedish filmmaker Daniel Espinosa
(Life) will direct, from a script by Matt
Sazama and Burk Sharpless, whose
bloody fantasy pedigree includes Dracula
Untold and The Last Witch Hunter.

7 __ The film will sit “adjunct” to
the MCU, according to producer Amy
Pascal; Sony still owns the cinematic
rights to Spider-Man. But the two
universes seem unlikely to collide
any time soon.

8 __ More likely is an appearance from
Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, or another
character in the burgeoning SUMC.
A ‘Kraven Pastries’ delivery truck was
spotted on the Morbius set, teasing
a potential appearance from Russian
supervillain Kraven The Hunter.

9 __ Longtime Marvel producer Avi
Arad points to the curious arc of the
character as part of his appeal. “I love
the story about the healer that becomes
a killer, and how do you deal with it?”
he told Screenrant.

10 __ Under the working title ‘Plasma’
(a reference to the blood fluid Morbius
drains), filming has taken place in the
UK, with Manchester’s Northern Quarter
doubling for New York — ahead of a big
winter 2020 release. JOHN NUGENT
