SPOTLIGHT ON...
Every week, we road test the latest beauty innovations

‘It also works as a facial cleansing
brush, with three different heads to
select from. I know plenty of people
who swear by these type of brushes
and there’s no denying they give a
deeper clean than using hands.
‘Overall, this gizmo’s strength is
definitely as an epilator, with a few
other useful attachments. If you
love a beauty tool and want to have
them all in one place, this might be
a worthwhile investment.’

OF COURSE, THE BEST

WAY TO PROTECT YOUR

HAIR AND SCALP FROM
THE SUN IS TO KEEP IT
COVERED WITH A HAT
OR A PRETTY
HEADSCARF.

Bumble and bumble Surf Styling
Leave In £23, bumbleandbumble.co.uk
A sun protectant that does a little
something extra, this also helps to
create beachy waves – but soft, bouncy,
touchable ones rather than the crispy,
knotted tendrils that can result after a dip
in the sea. For anyone who likes to let their
curly hair dry naturally, it tames frizz
beautifully, too.

Charles Worthington Sunshine
Protector UV Protection Leave-
In Spray Takeaway £2.49, Boots
At 50ml, this little bottle is cabin-
baggage-friendly and just the right
size to see you through a sun-filled
mini-break. Along with UV filters,
it also contains moringa oil, which
helps to smooth and condition the
hair. Spritz on before hitting the
beach or pool.

Color Wow Pop & Lock
Crystallite Shellac
£18.50, feelunique.com
Want to give your hair a glossy,
mirror-like shine? This gel-cream
is the answer. While most
serums, creams and oils just sit
on the surface, this works
mostly on the inside, restoring
moisture and elasticity. Color
Wow is all about preserving
coloured hair and so this also
contains a UV filter, as exposure
to damaging rays can cause
your colour to fade more quickly
than usual.

This week:
BRAUN
SILK-ÉPIL 9
BEAUTY SET

Beauty Editor
Laura Mulley
trials Braun’s
new ‘one-stop
beauty set’

The Braun Silk-épil 9 Beauty Set costs £219.99 from amazon.co.uk.

Our verdict:
Laura says: ‘First off, it was nearly
game over before I’d even started
when I realised that the main device
charges through a two-prong
shaver plug which my home doesn’t
have. I eventually figured out I could
use the plug off my electric
toothbrush, but this is definitely
something to note before buying.
‘Once up and running, the heads
were easy to change and did their
intended purposes well. I admit this
was my first time trying epilation as
a hair-removal process, and my
God did it hurt, although I hear it
gets less painful over time.
‘The facial tool is battery operated
and quicker to get going with.
Having something repeatedly pull
hairs out of my top lip was never
going to be a pleasant experience,
but it made the process as quick as
possible, removing all traces of
peach fuzz in a flash.

What’s the big
deal?
Are you someone whose
bathroom cabinet is
bursting with gadgets?
Then the new Braun Silk-épil 9 Beauty Set might be the space-saving
tool you’re looking for. A selection of beauty electricals in one appliance,
it has two multi-use attachments – the first for epilating, exfoliating,
shaving and massaging, and the second FaceSpa tool (with
interchangeable heads) for cleansing, facial epilation and make-up
blending. It claims to make beauty routines quicker and simpler.
