Fire kills 10 teens

at Flamengo’s

training ground

Brazil club Flamengo are to face some serious
questions after 10 teenage footballers died in
a fire in a dormitory at the club’s training ground
in Rio de Janeiro.
The fire was reportedly caused by an electrical
fault in an air-conditioning unit and the club now
faces an investigation after Rio authorities said
that the area affected by the fire was registered
for parking, not as a dormitory.
“We are distraught,” said Flamengo president
Rodolfo Landim. “This is the worst tragedy to
happen to the club in its 123 years.
“The most important thing right now is
to minimise the suffering of these families.”
