The role of British agent Willie Mckay
in Emiliano Sala’s transfer from Nantes to
Cardiff City has come under scrutiny since
the tragic plane crash after it emerged that
the Monaco-based businessman had
approached Nantes to request the right to
negotiate a transfer on the club’s behalf.
McKay admitted in an anterview with
L’Equipe: “If I had never asked Nantes for a
mandate to negotiate about Sala’s transfer,
he would still be among us.”
In an email published by L’Equipe, McKay
had pitched the transfer to Sala by admitting
that false stories had been placed, linking
Sala with a move to the Premier League.
“As far as you are concerned, we have
talked to all the clubs, including Manchester,
Chelsea, Liverpool. We think you could end
up in such clubs,” McKay wrote to Sala.
“It’s been said that Cardiff does not

interest you. But that is probably our mistake,
because we ‘leaked’ in the media that other
clubs like West Ham and Everton want you.
Just to stimulate the interest in you.”
Questions also remain about ownership
of the plane which took Sala across the
Channel. The flight was reportedly arranged
by McKay but the aircraft was registered in
the United States to unnamed owners.
