What I had:Hair colouring, root retouching and an Olaplex
treatment, four hours, $458
My thoughts:Trimmings Tudor Court has a central location,
a relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. Founded in 2008
by Amanda Ong, the beautiful salon has a following of both
expats and locals, as well as a strong reputation for delivering
outstanding colour.
I was a little nervous, as I knew that I’d be adding pink and
purple to my hair! First I met with Fai so he could decide which
shade was best for my complexion. He decided to go for a violet
balayage look. To get this look we had to pre-lighten the ends for
a balayage effect and darken the roots with deep violet shades.
Fai added in a few foils of pastel blue Aveda colour underneath
for depth and dimension. A friend commented that this gave it a
smoky look and I totally agree – the colours look great together.
The result is a big change, but I do love it! It looks more
purple throughout than in the picture, but I feel like a really
good-looking Disney villain (ha!). To maintain the colour,
Trimmings gave me two Kevin Murphy products: Angel Wash
Shampoo and Autumn Angel, a colour enhancing treatment to
maintain the pink. The colour lasts for around 20 washes before
