Visage
What I had: Curly haircut, from $75
My thoughts: Visage has been in the
same spot for 25 years, which is amazing
in this day and age. The salon is in Delfi
Orchard, in a lovely corner room which
boasts plenty of natural light and looks
out to Orchard Road and the Forum.
Owner Dominic is so quick at cutting;
just when you think he can’t possibly be
done, the haircut is complete! He has
such a lot of experience, and he knows
hair really well.
Folks with curly hair like mine will
agree that it’s really scary getting it cut
because it “shrinks” so much. On top of
that, you need as much weight as possible
to keep the curls long. Some hairdressers
I’ve had before kept leaving the sides too

long – when I left it loose it looked like a

triangle, so I kept putting it up. Even after

my hair was blow-dried it still looked a bit

daggy and too heavy on top. So, I asked

Dominic to address this.

I also wanted my fringe to be shorter,

which is a bit risky, but he listened to me.

Although he was right and my fringe is a

bit springy after the trim, my hair does

look better after a blow-dry; and when I

pin up the sides, the haystack vibe is gone!

Psst...I was also treated to a scalp scrub

treatment ($65), which was great because

my scalp does get pretty clogged with leave-

in conditioners and the humidity. The wash

and head massage was brilliant!
