WINE & DINE
JULY 2019 93
- Michelin-starred restaurant Whitegrass at Chijmes has
reopened with Takuya Yamashita now heading up the
kitchen. Previously of Tokyo’s Ciel et Sol, Chef Takuya
combines his classical French culinary background and
inspirations from nature to create five- and eight-course
degustation menus. - Avenue Singapore (2 Bayfront Avenue, Basement 3)
is Marina Bay Sands’ latest opening. Based on Avenue
venues in the US, the swanky lounge boasts a private
section with two mini bowling alley lanes, as well
as a gaming room with a pool table and vintage
arcade machines. As for cocktails, guests can choose
from modern classics ($22 each) like Just Another Sling,
which involves a gula melaka twist on the Singapore Sling.

Singapore has claimed 11 spots

Kong Street (#21), Operation

- For Japanese omakase, head to Jimoto Dining, which sits
in a cosy shophouse at 325 Joo Chiat Road. The 14-seater
is headed by Tokyo-born Chef Takahiro Sato, who has
had experience in Melbourne’s Kakizaki. Dinner is priced
from $55 for a five-course meal, served only from 6pm
to 7pm, but there are also seven-course options (from
$68) for those with bigger appetites. - New to Dempsey is Japanese yakitori restaurant Bincho
at Min Jiang (7A/B Dempsey Road), a 40-seater offering
a selection of grilled meats and vegetables, alongside
seasonal dishes. Try the signature yasai maki (vegetable
rolls): thinly sliced pork or beef wrapped around seasonal
vegetables, skewered and grilled over bincho-tan charcoal.
