Colored Pencil Demonstration 119

STAGE 3 DARK VALUES
Sometimes it can be difficult to achieve
dark values on stone. Each piece is different
and accepts or rejects colored pencil in its
own way depending on the surface texture
and mineral deposits. I decided to do this
part first to make sure it would work before
committing. Leaving a border around the
edge creates a faux mat for the image.

STAGE 4 CAVESCAPE
I like to leave plenty of the stone pattern showing
through and I use a light touch with multiple
layers rather than putting the pigment on hard
and heavy. Prismacolor French Greys blend well
with the stone and are useful for enhancing and
integrating naturally occurring patterns into
the piece. I begin to define the cavescape and
formations.
