Dear Readers,I once again greet our readers, who had been
supportive throughout the journey of your magazine.This issue, we bring to you a discussion on the
crop-marks and soil-marks discovered this summer
in Manipur valley which is exciting not only to the
archaeologists and historians but to all lay citizens and
provide an opportunity to experts to undertake further
researches. May, June and July are months when we
observe various Days and weeks to bring awareness
towards Climate Change and global warming and
hence, there are quite a few articles on this matter;
Impact of this on the Asian elephant due to dwindling
habitat and rising human-animal conflict, the less
talked about Light Pollution in our ecosystem, Asiatic
Golden cat and its reduction in number due to their
habitat destruction, and the need for conservation of
wetlands for long term benefits.There is an article on Phumdis, which are found
floating in the Loktak and other lakes and which is nearly destroying the lakes as cleaning it from the lake have
become almost impossible due to high nutrient content of the water due to large scale pollution. The round
Athaphum of Loktak, which many see in photographs, may however not be seen in the future due to restriction
imposed.
We bring to you an article on cyber crimes as with the large scale use of smart phones, this has become
much more common than we envisaged. Therefore there is a need to understand it and how to avoid it. An
article on the Egyptian desert glass is also included, which bring to the fore the need for multidisciplinary
approach to understand natural phenomena. We bring to you Ceres, a dwarf planet or an asteroid in “Know your
Universe” to understand more about our solar system beyond the sun and the planets. On the food section we
have the recipe for Chakhao Kheer the black rice pudding, a sweet dish very popular as a dessert. We have the
usual Knowledge Corner, Quiz, etc.
