WHAT DID YOU LEARN
ABOUT YOURSELF IN YOUR ROOKIE YEAR?
“I felt like I grew a lot in the mental aspect of the game.
I came in as the No. 5 pick thinking, ‘I can’t mess up.’ I was
playing not to make a mistake. I knew I was a good player. I
just needed to go show it on the fi eld. About Week 4 or 5, I
just turned it on.”
WHAT WAS YOUR WELCOME TO THE NFL MOMENT?
“It wasn’t on the fi eld. It was actually after training
camp. There are 90 guys in the locker room, and before a
preseason game you don’t know what’s going to happen.
That 90 gets cut down to 53. There are guys who are ballin’
out in preseason, but it’s just numbers. That’s when it hit.
This is something people work their whole lives for, but
some people just fall short.”
WHAT HAS IT BEEN LIKE SEEING SO MANY OF
YOUR FIRST FOOTBALL CARDS RELEASE INTO THE
MARKET?
“Oh, it’s real cool. I remember sitting down and signing all
those cards, and then I go to a game and shows me that he
collects my cards. That’s something to be proud of and cool
to see.”
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO 2019 ROOKIES?
“Just to come in and don’t take things too personal. I saw
a lot of guys get down on themselves because they didn’t
end up making the 53-man roster. So, just keep your head
down and keep working every day. Don’t believe the hype of
the rookie wall.”
WHAT VETERANS DID YOU GET TO MEET THAT
YOU WERE A FAN OF?
“Of course, J.J. Watt, Von Miller, Jadeveon Clowney, Melvin
Ingram, the list goes on. I did get a chance at the end of
games to talk to those guys. Our class is like a new wave, so I
just wanted to pay them respect.”
IF YOU COULD BE PAIRED ON A FOOTBALL CARD
WITH ANY PLAYER IN HISTORY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
“That’s hard. I’ll say Lawrence Taylor. He’s the standard
when it comes to on-the-fi eld play. When I went through
the draft process, so many people said he was the best to
ever play the game. Being on a card with someone who
pretty much set the precedence for our position would be
cool.”
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THE BRONCOS
NEXT SEASON WITH SO MANY YOUNG LEADERS?
“I feel like every rookie class goes through the same
things, but when it came to us, we had a whole di erent mindset. I
feel like we bonded pretty quickly from OTAs and training camp. Un-
fortunately, the record wasn’t the best for us this year, but we banded
together to make plays. Next year will be a huge step for us. We have
a lot of people taking on bigger roles. It’s going to be huge.”
