THE NEW WORK PROJECT BY THE NEW DESIGN PROJECT
Smack dab in the heart of Brooklyn, a melting pot of cultures
and creativity, The New Work Project is designed with a
specific audience in mind: those in the creative industries.
Occupying the space that was once a foundry, James Davison
and Fanny Abbes, who are also the founders of interior design
studio The New Design Project, have embellished the rooms
with an eclectic selection of furniture—from mid-century
pieces to custom fixtures by the husband-and-wife duo as well
as collaborative objects with fellow designers including J.M.
Szymanski and Eskayel.
“We wanted to create a space that would inspire and promote
creativity so we chose black and white interiors to give the space
a modern and clean feel, and we elevated it with brass accents.
As far as the workplace experience was concerned, we wanted
to program the space in a way that would encourage people to
interact with each other which is why more than half of the space
is open-plan. A mix of dedicated desks, soft seating, communal
tables, high workstations and break-out areas are all to create a
fluid working environment,” says Davidson.
With a membership limited to only 75, The New Work Project
promises a personal and intimate setting for the patrons no
matter where they choose to set up camp—the lounge areas,
assigned gallery desks or private studios. The capped tenancy
also means that they would be able to interact with one another
with ease, thus creating that sense of community Davidson
and Abbes are striving for. After all, it was the soulless and
uninspiring working situation at other co-working spaces that
prompted the two to come up with their own.
