NOMAD WORKSPACE BY SPATIAL CODE

How do you turn an old and stuffy courthouse into a
warm and homely workstation that gets one’s creative
juices flowing? This was the biggest question mark for
Spatial Code’s Natalia Sanchez when founders Oliver
Bernhard and Peter Madsen courted her to turn the 2,000
sqm building into Nomad Workspace. Deciding to pay
tribute to the historic establishment originally designed
by celebrated Danish architect Thorvald Bindesbøll in
1863, Sanchez used colour to express its identity and at
the same time to create a warm and welcoming ambience
for potential lessees.

“An ideal working environment to me is a place that
accommodates the needs of different kinds of employees.
Modern work culture is not about the number of hours you
spend in the office. It’s about the quality in the hours you put
in. I always say that the more well-rested the employees are,

the more prosperous the business gets, and this could mean
having high tables, sofas, lounges, contemplating rooms, and
so on. And when it comes to the furnishings, it was important
for me to do site-specific designs in order to give the space its
own character,” says Sanchez.

The practicality of Nomad Workspace is demonstrated by the
dedicated segments lined across the property. There’s the
work lounge, café, event space, private and open office spaces,
common or community areas and more. For Sanchez, she would
start her day by replying emails and the café is just the place to
do that. For meetings, briefing and brainstorming sessions, she
heads to one of the fully equipped and serviced meeting rooms
and if she ever needs to sift through long reports or such, she
would opt for the couch in the quiet room.
