CONTRIBUTORS

LESLIE ZHANG
Photographer
Renowned for his striking
portraits and shots that capture
a strong sense of cultural
belonging, Leslie Zhang’s work
is one that is admired by many
in the fashion industry. It was
his involvement with painting as
an art form that later led him to
photography—a platform that
allowed him to build a scene
from scratch and tell stories
of everyday life. Through his
skilful composition and clever
play of bold colours, he has
recreated picturesque spreads
for numerous fashion titles. His
latest achievement sees him
being featured in the 2019 edition
of Dazed 100, a global search
of creative talents shaping our
culture.

CHIAKI SABATA
Hairstylist
Born and raised in Wakayama,
Japan, Chiaki Sabata began
pursuing a career in hair and
makeup before making the
move to Paris in 1998. There, the
brilliant Jean Marc Maniatis took
him under his wings and trained
him for over a year. Sabata later
left to become a freelancer and
his portfolio has since glowed
from his collaborations with well-
known photographers like Bettina
Rheims and Gilles Bensimone.
His works are regularly picked up
by publications such as L’Officiel
Malaysia, Vogue Japan and
Harper’s Bazaar Russia. In 2014,
he moved to Malaysia and opened
his own hair salon, CHARDON
Tokyo, a year after.

LAIA GOMEZ
Stylist
With over 10 years of experience
working as a fashion stylist
between Spain and America, it
goes without saying that Laia
Gomez is a veteran in the field.
The fashion marketing and
communication specialist first
started as a styling assistant at
the age of 19. From there, her
creative vision and attention to
detail has earned her numerous
job opportunities where she lends
her expertise to commercial
projects as well as the editorial
pages of L’Officiel, Vogue and
Marie Claire. To her, inspiration
can come in many forms, be it a
movie, a colour palette or even a
country, so long as it embodies
the desired essence of fashion to
be channelled into all her works.

CHU FAN
Makeup Artist
As a fine arts graduate majoring in
oil painting, Chu Fan’s perception
and presentation of makeup are
often influenced by his knowledge
of and skills in art and painting.
He is also not one to neglect his
skill set as he continuously seeks
to improve by attending classes
and stepping out of his comfort
zone through experimentations
of different beauty looks. Having
prepped countless faces at
various fashion and beauty gigs
since 2005, many have told him
he looks more like a designer
or painter rather than a makeup
artist.
