Affairs
Of The
Art
From florals 3D and
printed, to laborious
embellishments and
abstract prints, these are
the subtle ways designers
are having a dialogue
with the art world for
Autumn/Winter 2019.

COACH X KAFFE FASSETT
After the gothic darkness of the past
couple of seasons, Stuart Vevers is
ushering in a lighter mood at Coach
for A/W ’19. One of the major signifiers
of this departure is his collaboration
with Kaffe Fassett, whom Vevers
called “a magician of colour”. Working
in the realms of decorative arts
usually associated with the feminine
—needlepoint, quilting, patchworks,
ceramics, knits and other textiles—
Fassett was one of the artists who
helped defined the trippy, freewheeling
flower-power of the Sixties and
Seventies with his use of searing,
brilliant hues, usually interpreted as
psychedelic blooms. This season, his
work is splashed across sturdy parkas,
glimmering knits and those light-as-
air dresses that have become a Coach
signature, now given a fresh spin thanks
to Vevers layering them nonchalantly
‘90s-style atop boyish basketball
shorts.
