1 Cutpiecesofwood,usingahandsaw,

intoavarietyof10-15cmlengths.

2 Thoroughlysandwoodusing

sandpaperwithasandingblockor

anelectrichandsander.Removeall

splintersandroughedges.

3 Coveryourworkareawithnewspaper

andpainteachpieceofwoodwith

Resene‘White’paint.Acoupleoftestpots

willbeenough.Apply 1 coatfora

whitewashedeffect.Thisgivestheproject

acoastalbeachvibe.

4 Paintyourmirrorframewithacoatof

Resene‘White’paint,ensuringyoucoat

the outer and inner edge so none of the

original frame colour is visible.

5 Once the paint is dry, start roughly

placing the wood around the frame –

this will give you a good idea of how

the lengths look. You want

Whenyou’rehappywiththearrangement,

glue the wood in place. Make sure your

glue gun is nice and hot – the ho…er the

glue, the be…er the adhesion. Place a li…le

glue along the sides of wood pieces that

touch each other too. When all your

main pieces are in place, glue smaller,

thinner sticks in between to fill any gaps.

6 Tomakeamatchingvaseorplanter,

useajarthatisshorterthan,orthe

sameheightas,theshortestpiecesof

dri‡wood. Glue wood all the way around

your jar. While gluing in place, take care

not to knock them out of place. Hot glue

will stick to glass but, once dry, it can be

removed relatively easily, which is why

it is a good idea to bind the pieces on

with twine. Wind the twine around the

dri‡wood and tie with a bow. The twine

helps to hold the wood in place as well

as adding to the coastal look and feel.
