Saoirse Kennedy Hill, the
22-year-old granddaughter of
the late Robert F. Kennedy, will
be remembered Monday morn-
ing in a funeral Mass on Cape
Cod, accordingto a family
spokesman.
Kennedy Hill, a Boston Col-
lege student, was found unre-
sponsiveat the Kennedy com-
pound in Hyannis Port on
Thursday afternoon and later
pronounceddeadat Cape Cod
Hospital.
Her funeral Mass will take
place at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of
Victory Churchin the Barnsta-
ble village of Centerville, ac-
cordingto a statementreleased
Sunday by Brian Wright O’Con-
nor, a spokesman for former
congressman JosephP. Kenne-
dy II.
A private burialservice will
follow the Mass.
Kennedy Hill’s death re-
mains under investigation, and
a toxicology report is forthcom-
ing, according to authorities.
Many whoknew Kennedy
Hill have remembered her as an
outspoken advocate for mental
healthissues.Asaseniorat
Deerfield Academy in 2016, she
wrote candidly about strug-
glingwith depression.
“My depressiontook root in
the beginningof my middle
school years and will be with
me for the rest of my life,” she
wrotethen. “AlthoughI was
mostly a happychild, I suffered
boutsof deepsadness that felt
like a heavy boulder on my
chest. These bouts wouldcome
and go, but they did not out-
wardlyaffect me untilI was a
new sophomore at Deerfield.”
David Thiel, Deerfield’s as-
sistant head of school for strate-
gy and planning, said Kennedy
Hill was “a strong, selfless advo-
cate for other people. She was

courageous in writingand
speaking aboutdeeply personal
issues.”
Robert F. KennedyJr., Ken-
nedy Hill’s uncle, said in a post
on Instagram that she had been
like his own daughter and like a
sister to his children.
“Saoirsewas fierce, bothin
her love for her family and
yearning for justice,” he wrote.
“A fearless adventurer, she in-
spired curiosity and daringin
her friends. But her greatest gift
was to find humorin every-
thingand to give us all the gift
of her laughter — and our own.
The gaping hole that she leaves
in our family is a woundtoo
large to ever heal.”
Kennedy Hill’s godmother,
Patricia Harty, saidshe was
“such a beautiful, lively young
child” whogrew up to be a
brave youngwomanwhoin-
spired Harty to be morebold in
addressing important issues.
Her mother, Courtney Ken-
nedy Hill, is the fifth of Robert
F. and Ethel Kennedy’s 11 chil-
dren, and her father, Paul Mi-
chaelHill, was one of four peo-
ple falsely convicted in the 1974
Irish RepublicanArmy bomb-
ings of two pubs. The two met
and married in the 1990s, after
Hill’s release fromprison,but
later divorced.

REVERE — A 32-year-old
Lynn manwas fatallyshotby
Everett police early Sunday
morningafter a chaseinto Re-
vere, authorities said.
The man,whowas identi-
fied as Oscar D. Ventura-Gonza-
lez, was shot about12:30 a.m.
outside 375 Washington Ave.,
nearthe intersection withSar-
gent Street, State Police spokes-
manDavid Procopio said in a
statement.
He was taken to Massachu-
setts General Hospital, where
he died of his injuries, accord-
ing to a separate statement
fromSuffolk District Attorney
Rachael Rollins.
Rollins, who will oversee the
State Police investigation into

the shooting, pledged to con-
duct “a thoroughand impartial
review.”
“I’m grateful that no by-
standers or members of law en-
forcementwereinjured in this
morning’s police-involved
shooting or the sequenceof
events that precededit. Howev-
er, I acknowledge that a family
is grieving the loss of a loved
one today,” Rollins said in the
statement.
“I wantto assure that family,
the community, and members
of law enforcement that there
will be a transparentand im-
partial review of this encounter
in order to provide the answers
that they deserve.”
Rollins urged any witnesses
to contact the Suffolk County
StatePoliceDetectiveUnitat

At the site of the shooting on
Sunday afternoon,broken
chunks of autoglass were
strewn across the sidewalk and

part of the adjacent roadway,
and shrubbery at the edge of a
front yard was broken, flat-
tened,and torn.Scrape marks
and stains across the sidewalk’s
surface appeared to showa ve-
hicle’s path.
Julian Aguilar, 17, lives a
few doorsaway. He was awak-
ened early Sunday by noise
from outside, he said.
“I woke up because I
thought someone had [hit] my
car,” he said, explaining that
drivers often speed downWash-
ington Avenue, which runs
alongthe bordersof Everett,
Revere,and Chelsea. “I didn’t
expect anyone to be shooting. I
thoughtit was just a traffic
thing.”
Aguilar said he could only be
surehe heard one gunshot,
thoughhis brotherbelieved he
had heard three, he said.
Stepping to his window, con-
cerned that bullets might still
be flying, Aguilar peeredout

and saw a police officer who ap-
pearedto be upset and was sur-
rounded by other officers.
“He was all scared, all shook,
and they were holdinghim,”
Aguilar said.
The teen expressedsurprise
at the sudden violence so close
to home, but he said it didn’t
make him concernedabouthis
safety.
“You don’t really expect that
in Revere, but thingshave been
getting crazy,” he said.
Just last month, 35-year-old
John Brooks was fatallyshot
during an argument in the Cen-
tennialAvenueneighborhood,
and during Friday afternoon’s
rush hour, an unidentified man
was critically injured in a shoot-
ing on Route 1A outside the old
Wonderland Ballroom.
