I

ndian electrical equipment industry has become

strategically important for India even as India aims to

become a $5 trillion economy. The Indian electrical

industry is broadly categorised into electrical equipment

sector and electricity sector for power generation. The

electrical equipment sector can be further broadly classified

into two sub-sectors –

Generation equipment : Boilers, turbines, generators

Transmission & Distribution : Energy meters, transformers,

cables, transmission lines, switchgears, capacitors, etc

The Indian electrical equipment sector contributes close to 10

per cent of the manufacturing sector in terms of value and close

to 1.4 per cent of India’s GDP. One of the major employment

generator, the electrical equipment sector in India is all set for

growth in coming years.
