Nice Issue

You guys topped yourselves with the Summer 2019 issue of Upland Almanac! A gallery of
photos of Irish red and white setters – what beauts! And who knew Ohio ever had Huns? Not me.
But you shot the eyes out of the high birds with Michael Lannoo’s “Coteau des Prairies: A Higher
Love.” One of the best pieces I’ve ever read in UA; it makes me want to go visit the place and
extend my subscription for another year.
E. Flanders Lovejoy, Monterey, California

Interesting Contrast

I found it interesting that the the same topic, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, can stir such
opposing emotions. The Summer 2019 issue of your magazine featured both the splendid love
song to South Dakota, “Coteau des Prairies: A Higher Love,” by Michael Lannoo and complaints
from reader Tom Galeaz upon learning pen-reared pheasants are sometimes part of the bag in
S.D. (“Mailbox”).
It’s kind of sad that Mr. Galeaz’s main memory of his hunt is a bitter one instead of a deeply felt new connection to some
special real estate as Michael Lanoo examines in his “Higher Love” story.
