RÉSIDENCE DE LA PINÈDE, SAINT-TROPEZ

A favourite of Saint-Tropez’s jet set since
opening in 1936, Résidence de la Pinède,
now under LVMH management, has just
emerged from a makeover by architect Jean-
Michel Wilmotte. Original Provençal-style
balustrades and the spruced-up peaches-
and-cream exterior are in perfect sync with
the midcentury ceramics and works of art
by Vallauris artist Roger Capron. Seaview
rooms mirror their setting in a medley of
sandy beige and cobalt blue, while dinner
is served under the windswept pines at
three-Michelin-starred restaurant La Vague
d’Or, which dishes out deconstructed
modern French cuisine. Lanie Goodman

63 WALL STREET SPEAKEASY, NEW YORK

One hidden attraction of residential
tower 63 Wall Street is that it comes with
its own speakeasy, available to residents
only. Located in the former 1920s HQ of
private bank Brown Brothers Harriman,
this bijou Manhattan nook has been
deftly converted by Brooklyn studio The
Design High, who blended contemporary
touches, such as velvet banquette seats
and a customised brass mesh and marble
bar, with an original green marble fireplace,
wood panelled walls, herringbone floors
and chandeliers. A minimal cocktail menu
is headlined by a Moscow Mule and a
Negroni spiked with mescal. Daven Wu
