1 ) Working on a design wall and referring to
Diagram 4 for rotation of Flying Geese
units and color placement, lay out Flying
Geese units, matching print 2^1 ∕ 2 " squares,
brown print 2× 21 ∕ 2 " rectangles, brown
print 1^1 ∕ 2 ×4" rectangles, and brown print
4" squares in seven rows.

2 ) Remove first two Flying Geese units and
matching print 2^1 ∕ 2 " square from first row.
Join pieces to make a center square unit
(Diagram 2). The unit should be 2^1 ∕ 2 × 41 ∕ 2 "
including seam allowances. Return unit
to design wall. Repeat to make 16 center
square units total.

3 ) Remove first two Flying Geese units and
brown print 2× 21 ∕ 2 " rectangle from second
row. Join pieces to make a Flying Geese
sashing unit (Diagram 3). The unit should
be 2^1 ∕ 2 ×4" including seam allowances.
Return unit to design wall. Repeat to
make 12 Flying Geese sashing units total.

4 ) Sew together center square units,
remaining brown print 2× 21 ∕ 2 " rectangles,
brown print 1^1 ∕ 2 ×4" rectangles, Flying Geese
sashing units, and brown print 4" squares
in rows (Diagram 4). Join rows to make bag
body center. The center should be 19×21"
including seam allowances.

5 ) Join a brown print 2×19" rectangle to right-

print 1^1 ∕ 2 × 221 ∕ 2 " rectangle to bottom edge

to make bag front (Bag Front Assembly
Diagram). The bag front should be
20 × 221 ∕ 2 " including seam allowances.

6 ) Referring to Bag Back Assembly Diagram,
repeat steps 1–5 to make bag back. (When
the bag front and bag back are placed side
