Her work showcases many earthy
colors—ocher, rust, sage, avocado,
and persimmon—and she thinks
a lot about what she calls a “color
vocabulary”—if the value is light
or dark, if the intensity is dull or
bright, if the temperature is warm
or cool, and whether the colors are
complementary.
“One of my big goals these
days is trying out unexpected color
combinations,” says Jean. “I have a
rich teal, acid green, and gray abstract
rock theme on the wall at the moment
and it is calling me.”


Finishing touches
Many of Jean’s pieces feature one
quilted piece with irregular edges
mounted on top of another quilted
piece, usually square or rectangular.
