he beauty of surface design is that it can be as subtle or complex as the artist desires. This
simple handmade stencil will add variety to your fabric, and the stencil can be used again and
again. With this technique you can make a series of repeated dots using hand-held hole punches
and materials you may already have in your studio. Use the stencil to add a new layer of color or
texture—a polka dot design—to commercial or hand-dyed fabric. You can create a one-of-a-kind
dotted cloth by printing with a single-color of paint or a fantastic feature fabric using multiple colors.
