“Night driving in the city streets
inspired me to make this abstract
quilt. Intense, strong, complementary
colors divided with black lines are
created as one piece of black cotton
fabric. Th e black design is cut using a
craft knife. Th en the opened spaces
are fi lled with pieces of sateen in
diff erent colors. Th e raw edges are
couched with black metallic yarn and
transparent thread. Th is piece is free-
motion machine quilted.”

“Th ank you for this challenge; it is
the fi rst one I’ve attempted and I
found it very inspiring. I chose a
color palette based on what makes
me feel happy. I love bright colors
mixed with black accents. I made this
collage with infl uences from Susan
Carlson and Emily Taylor. Collage
feels like painting with fabric, and I
love watching how it unfolds. It was
a fun project but I had to defi nitely
overcome a few challenges ... I am
glad I persevered!”
