TIP: Hold an object inside the house as
you press so you don’t burn your fi nger.
(fi gure 7)
- To construct the roof, measure
from the peak of the house to
the top of the side wall. Then,
measure the length of the side.
To each measurement, add a
generous^1 ⁄ 8 ". Cut 2 roof panels. - Place the roof panels on a non-
stick surface, with the peak edge
together, leaving a tiny space
between them to accommodate
the fold. As with the sides of the
house, gently place a piece of
pre-fused roof fabric over these
panels. Press and trim to the edge
of the stabilizer but not between
the panels. - Use hot glue to attach the roof to
the house, drawing a bead of glue
along the top edge of the house
on one side, attaching the roof,
and then repeating on the other
side. (fi gure 8)
- The house can be considered
fi nished at this point or add more
detail by painting along the cut
edge of the roof and drawing
some details on the windows and
doors with a fi ne and permanent
marker. (fi gure 9)
If you fi nd this process too
simple and want to branch out,
add thread sketching to the
windows and doors before folding
the house together or try a wide
range of proportions and shapes.
Experiment! Anything is possible
once you have fi nished your fi rst
house. The smallest house I have
made has a ½ " square ‘footprint.’
Line them up on your mantle.
Pass a thread through them and hang
them on a mobile or Christmas tree.
Most of all, have fun creating a whole
village of little houses!
