‘MAIOLICHE DI PIETRA’ TILES
by Martinelli Venezia
This deliciously tactile collection of modular
patterned tiles is made of volcanic stone
sourced from mines located at the foot of
Mount Etna. Extremely resilient, the granite-
like material was once used to pave roads and
build churches and palaces in Sicily’s Catania
province. Designed by Carolina Martinelli
and Vittorio Venezia, of Palermo-based studio
Martinelli Venezia, for Sicilian natural
stone producer Lithea, the rectangular tiles
are decorated with motifs reminiscent of the
island’s dry stone walls, stone quarry blocks
and the grooves on the columns of its ancient
monuments. They’re also inspired by squared
or diamond-shaped bossage (the projecting
stone blocks commonly seen on Renaissance
buildings), and chiaroscuro (the arrangement
of dark and light typical of the Renaissance
and Baroque periods). The collection also
includes a freestanding circular sink made
of volcanic stone, a mirror and a series
of accessories that can easily be attached
to the tiles that come with pierced holes.

‘NARCIS’ SINK
by Bassines
Xavier Dupuy, president of luxury kitchen
brand La Cornue, and long-term collaborator
Laurent Besseas have turned their talents to
Bassines, a new label that aims to revive the
ancient art of metalwork, or dinanderie as
it is known in France. Intent on proving that
the material is it for contemporary living,
its debut collection, ‘Narcis’, is a great case
in point. It’s made of high-quality 316 stainless
steel coated in either stainless steel, brass,
copper or black, which is applied employing
a technique used by the aeronautical industry.
The stopper can be personally engraved,
as can the plaque on the sink’s rim.

‘ATRIO’ TAP
by Grohe
Düsseldorf luxury bathroom specialist
Grohe has just reworked its ‘Atrio’ tap
collection, presenting a stripped-back version
of the original iteration. The remodelled
range features pure cylindrical shapes and
arched silhouettes, as well as its signature
cross handles. It comprises over 35 diferent
products, available in the original chrome,
as well as in SuperSteel and Brushed Hard
Graphite. The crux of the design is its
precision and, uniquely, each mixer tap
measures the same diameter from spout to
base. Such attention to detail has already
been recognised with a 2018 Red Dot Award.

‘AUAMOON’ SHOWER
by Michael Neumayr
Characterised by a neat dome embedded
in the ceiling, Michael Neumayr’s ‘Aquamoon’
shower for Dornbracht is designed to
envelop its user with a ‘multi-sensory water
experience’. It has four poetically-named
settings, including Queen’s Collar, sugesting
a waterfall; Aqua Circle, resembling a ‘rain
curtain’; Tempest, mimicking a thundery,
yet somehow therapeutic rainstorm; and
Embrace, the clever solution for washing the
body while ensuring hair remains dry. Each
comes with a diferent mood lighting emitted
through LEDs ixed inside the dome.
