WHEN JP has the time and

space to do so he’ll tether

his Canon EOS 5DS R to a

22-inch Benq monitor via an

HDMI cable, so he can see a

much larger version of his

camera’s Live View feed.

This makes it much easier for

him to see how shots will look,

examine the parts that are in

focus and judge the angle that

the light is coming in from.

It also makes it easier to show

the images to the head chef or

restaurant owner, so they can

suggest changes they might

want to make.

At the start of

the day I was

happy to just watch how

JP went about shooting

these wonderfully

colourful starters and their intricate,

vibrant, garnishes. I was getting to grips

with the monitor he had set up to connect

to his Canon 5DS R DSLR for viewing a

larger version of the Live View feed. Using

this made it easier to see which parts

were in focus. It was also a chance to set

up my camera and understand how to use

a macro lens, before all of the main

courses were brought out.
