EMMA MYERS is a writer from
Vancouver, Canada now based in Brooklyn.
Her work has appeared in Film Comment,
The Daily Beast, Indiewire, Brooklyn Magazine,
Elle, and more. She moved to New York eight
years ago to complete her M.A. in Film Stud-
ies at Columbia and is still waiting for her
“Goodbye to All That” moment to arrive.
She once shot 100 percent from the three-
point line in a recreational league basketball
game, and hasn’t shot again since for
fear of sullying that record. Find her
coverage of Richard Linklater’s
Where’d You Go, Bernadette on page 64.

Originally from Seattle, MICHAEL RAGEN
studied illustration and fine art before
experimenting with moving pictures. Since
then, his work has taken him all over the
world. He won the award for Best Cinema-
tography in a U.S. Narrative Feature at the
2016 Tribeca Film Festival for shooting
Kicks, directed by Justin Tipping, shot
Riley Stearns’ debut feature, Faults, and
was nominated for the MTV VMA Award
for Best Cinematography in 2014 for
his work on Portugal. The Man’s
“Sleep Forever.” Take a look inside his
cinematography kit on page 26.

FAYE ROGERS is a New Jersey-based, self-pro-
claimed “craft illustrator” who uses paper,
cardboard, acrylic, hot glue, and whatever
finds its way into her supply bin to create
three-dimensional worlds. She then photo-
graphs these paper sculptures so that her
illustrations can make their way into print.
She enjoys baking pies, looking for critters
under rocks while hiking, and generally just
figuring out how the world works. Check
out her illustrations in our coverage of the
Best Film Schools in the U.S. and Canada on
pages 68-73.

Born in southeast China, illustrator
WENJIA TANG came to the U.S. to attend high
school at age 15. She graduated from the
Maryland Institute College of Art in 2017
and her work has been recognized by
American Illustration, Society of Illustrators,
Association of Illustrators, and 3x3 maga-
zine. She loves all animals, and lives with
a cat in Manhattan, NY. See her illustrations
in our coverage of the Coolest Film Festivals
in the World on pages 36, 39 , and 40.

Born in Beijing, raised in Miami, and edu-
cated in Boston, Chinese-American writer-
director LULU WANG was named by Variety
among its “Top 10 Directors to Watch in
2019.” Her second feature, The Farewell,
had its world premiere at the
2019 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S.
Dramatic Competition and released in
theaters in July. She shares her experience
making The Farewell on page 28.

Born and living in Amsterdam, Dutch
cinematographer JASPER WOLF is attracted
to moviemaking that presents personal and
emotional challenges. Most recently, he shot
director Alejandro Landes’ Monos, which
won the World Cinema Dramatic Special
Jury Award at the 2019 Sundance Film
Festival. Before finding his way as a DP
he shot lots of Super 8 films, and still loves
shooting analog. He shares his experience
shooting Monos on page 32.
