3½ oz [100 g]; ): #804 stormy

grey (A) and #832 washed teal (B),

1 ball each.

HOOK Size I/9 (5.5 mm). Adjust

hook size if necessary to obtain

correct gauge.

NOTIONS Yarn needle.

GAUGE 15 sts and 5 rows = 4" in

patt, blocked.

—Cowl is worked in the round with right

side (RS) facing. Unused color is

carried up rounds as work progresses.

—To change color, work to last yarnover

in old color, pick up new color, and

complete stitch with new color.

COWL

Rnd 1: (RS) With A, leaving long tail,

175 fdc (skipped ch count as st), change

color to B, drop A to back (see Notes), sl st

in top of beg 2 skipped ch—176 sts. Rnd 2:

With B, ch 1, sc in same st as join, *ch 5, sk

next 3 dc, sc in next dc; rep from * across

to last 3 sts, ch 2, sk last 3 sts, dc in beg sc

to join (counts as ch-5 sp)—44 ch-5 sps.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in join, *(sc, ch 3, dc) in

3rd ch of next ch-5 sp; rep from * around,

ending with sc in same sc as first dc made,

sl st in first ch of beg ch-3, change color to

A, drop B to back, sl st in 2nd ch of same

ch 3. Rnd 4: With A, ch 1, sc in same ch as

sl st, *ch 3**, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from *

around, ending last rep at **, sl st in first

sc to join. Rnd 5: Ch 3, *3 dc in next ch-3

sp, dc in next sc; rep from * around, change

color to B, drop A to back, sl st in top of

beg ch 3 to join. Rnds 6–17: Rep Rnds 2–5

three times. Do not change colors at end of

last rnd. Fasten off both colors.

FINISHING

Use beg tail of A, sew Rnd 1 gap closed.

Weave in ends. Block lightly.
