Assembly
Turn lining so that the RS of stitches is
on the inside of piece. Center zipper over
opening. With scarlet thread, sew zipper
tape to outside of each side of lining.

Insert lining into assembled outer layer.
With navy thread, sew inside edge of outer
layer to zipper tape.

Fasten off at end of last row.

FINISHING
Embroidery
Thread tapestry needle with a length of C.
Each chart square represents 1 sc, and each
cross-stitch is worked diagonally over 2 sts
in each direction. Embroidery is worked
2 times on outer layer. Following the chart
and beg with Row 2 of outer layer, create
cross-stitch embroidery:

*First pass: Insert needle from back to front
at (1), insert needle from front to back at
(2); rep as indicated for all first pass red lines
across row; 2nd pass: Insert needle from
back to front at (3), insert needle from front
to back at (4); rep as indicated for all 2nd pass
blue lines across row**. Leave 2 rows blank
before beg next row of cross-stitches over foll
2 rows. Working up outer layer, rep from *
6 times, ending last rep at **. Beg at bottom,
alternate between horizontal and vertical
running stitches as indicated in chart to
connect cross-stitch rows. Fasten off.

Rotate work 180 degrees and rep cross-
stitch embroidery for opposite side of
clutch, leaving center 8 rows unworked.

After embroidery is complete, fold outer
layer in half with RS facing and stitch side
edges using A.

With B, ch 35. Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from
hook and in next 32 ch, 3 sc in last ch,
working in rem lps on opposite side of ch,
sc across to last ch, 2 sc last ch—70 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 32 sc, 2 sc
in next 3 sc, sc in next 32 sc, 2 sc in last
2 sc—76 sc. Rnds 3–28: Sc around. Fasten
off at end of last rnd.
