Step 3
1 The layers were separated by the addition of white
in places and shadows were introduced using permanent
violet dark.
2 In the foreground I prepared mixes of cobalt teal,
cobalt teal mixed with primary yellow, and permanent
violet dark. Using the chisel edge of the brush these
colours were worked quickly against each other to
suggest foreground grasses and other textures.
3 The next step was to take a fine Round No. 4 nylon
brush and a mix of burnt sienna and black to create
the finer branches and twigs.

Step 4
1 To complete the painting, fine leaves were added using
green mixed from cobalt teal and primary yellow. To make
them stand out I added a little white to the mix in places
and used the same colour to paint a highlight on the edge
of the tree trunks.
2 Finally, taking an old toothbrush and diluting the paint
down further I splattered into the tree canopy then added
dots of cobalt teal into the lower foreground with
a highlight applied to each flower head.
