With the front of the painting finished, I tidied up the sides

of the canvas by extending the colours around the edge

a few days later.

1 The final act should be the signature and date in the bottom
right-hand corner. I find putting the signature on does signify
the end of painting, but there is always something that becomes
apparent after a few days and that must be rectified. Tweaking
is to be expected.
2 Finally, when I was certain the painting was finished, I sprayed
the entire canvas with two coats of satin acrylic varnish using
an aerosol, left it for a few hours to dry then added a second
coat. The painting was finished.
