As the calm coda to the first day, the folk queen began with “Oh Happy Day”
and ended with “We Shall Overcome.” In between, Baez, who was five months pregnant,
displayed the beautiful voice and political activism she maintains
to this day. At 78, she’s over Woodstock. “People measure their lives by it—were they
there; were they born yet; were they stuck on the freeway; did their parents say
they couldn’t go? They’re obsessed by it. And it was a wonderful three days; the music
was great. I’m glad I was there. But it wasn’t the f---ing revolution.”
