to us on that stage wasn’t quite borne out by
the reality. Photos, for example, weren’t entirely
accounted for until the arrival of iCloud Photos
in iOS 8, three years later. We also had to wait
for iMessage to be covered, and files couldn’t be
seamlessly synced until Apple added Desktop
and Document folder syncing.


Therefore, much like the very first iPhone
shipped without many of the features we now
take for granted in the iPhone line, such as hi-res
cameras, a well-stocked App Store or even the
option to copy and paste text, iCloud was also
far from the finished article when first launched.
However, as the years have passed, Apple
has polished and buffed its cloud service to
impressive results. The iCloud no longer just has
a silver lining – it feels like a gold-plated product
through and through.


EVERY iCLOUD HAS A
SILVER MAC SHINING


Admittedly, we can’t establish that the 13-inch
MacBook Pro that 9to5Mac contributor
Bradley Chalmers recently bought afresh
was actually silver – but in any case, Chalmers
has broken revelations about his experiences of
setting up that MacBook Pro with iCloud’s help.
Due to remnants left over on his past laptop
from installing and deleting a range of apps, he
opted to freshly install macOS rather than use
the Migration Assistant tool.


This transition to a new laptop marked Chalmers’
first occasion of using iCloud to set up a Mac, and
he admitted: “I was surprised by how great this
process was in reality. I didn’t realize that it would
sync over all of my email accounts. I simply had
