Fiddling with aphone whiledriving

isindeeddangerous and wecan’t

understand whyGoogle forcesyou to

opt outof the newroute,rather thanthe

other wayaround,

or whytheoption is

even included since

manyofusfind it

distracting.

Unfortunately,it’s

beenaproblemfor

severalyearsand

theonlyfix is this:

first, download your

required routeso

it’savailable offline.

Next,setyour

desiredroutein

GoogleMaps, then

switch offWi-Fi and

mobiledata(or ju st

turn onAeroplane

mode). Sincethere’s

no connection, the

app will be unableto update,preventing

rero uting from taking place. Drivesafe!

Thunderbird email software, but

instead of upgradingmy existing

software, abrand newversionwas

installed.Thankfully,myoldversion

alert.It maybethatThunderbirdist rying

to run a32-bit version ona64-bit

machine–though it seems unlikely.There

mayalso be someconflict with add-ons

and extensionsyouhaverunning.You

can alsocheck theThunderbirdUpdates

folder to see which updatesyou currently

have installed.To checkyouhavethe

right one,open the‘upda tes.xml’file and

see if it mentions thelatest version. Next,

with Thunderbirdclosed, move the

updatessubfolder and the files‘update-

config.json’and ‘updates.xml’to abackup

folder,then runthe program again.

If none ofthisworks, run the full

Thunderbirdinstaller(bit.ly/

thunderbird491). This should updateyour

currentversionto the latest version,

withoutforcing youtounins tall

everything andstart from scratch. Failing

that, we mayhavetoawait the next

update.Let us knowhow youget on.
