ack in 1968, Italian tile company Cedit tasked
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni with creating a
series of ceramic objects, with the only brief being to
keep it small. The pair proposed a small collection
of vases, whose original shapes referenced abstracted
geometric forms. The body of the vase is held by a
curved support, an arrangement that ofers multiple
silhouettes depending on the viewer’s perspective:

a cone with a lying buttress from one angle, a gaping
pocket from another. Half a century after the original
design, ‘Lapis’, was released, Cedit has reissued
the pieces in grey, dark blue and red. And thanks
to the urgent sense of modernity that guided the
Castiglionis throughout their careers, the pieces
look just as relevant today as they did back in 1968.
