When YasMarina first heldthe
grand prix in Abu Dhabi back in
2009 it wason the first weekend
in November. Thisyear the
race was inDecember andthe
differencein the time of sunset
betweenthe two dates meantit’s
ten minutesearlier in 2019.
I was standing halfway
betweenTurns 13 and 14, which
is the tiny straight immediately
after the chicane at theend of
the back straight. Sincesunset
was at 17:33 on the Fridayof the
Abu Dhabiweekend, that was
right at thestart of FP2.
There was a five minute
window wherethe light was
good enough and it worked
beautif ully on the McLaren.Thesunsetson
