Q All-electric vehicles are often held up as a
greener alternative to petrol and diesel
vehicles because they don’t use fossil fuels
in their engines.
It’s not quite that simple though, because
electric vehicles still have to be charged, and
a lot of electricit y is still produced using fossilfuels. In fact, 60 per cent of electricit y around the
world is produced using fossil fuels such as coal
and gas.
It differs from country to country, however,
and in Europe especially, things are different.
In Belgium, for example, electricity is mainly
generated using zero-emission energ y sources,
such as solar and w ind power. MSAre electric vehicles more
environmentally friendly?
