To make a moon in Photoshop draw a circular marquee. Choose Filter>Render>
Clouds. Choose Filter>Distort>Spherize to create a globe. Save as a .PSD file.Turn day into night
Produce a moonlit scene using creative grading
Shoot it for real
If you do need to shoot a location at
night, set your camera to Manual.
Keep the ISO speed low (around 200)
to avoid adding nasty noise. Set the
aperture as wide as it will go to let in
enough light for a decent exposure.
You’ll also need to use a slow shutter
speed which means that a tripod
is essential if you’re going to avoid

Scale and position
Click on the cropping icon. Go to the Ken
Burns tab and set Style to Fit. Go to video
overlay settings and select the Picture in Picture
option. Scale and position the moon.8
No transition
By default the Picture in Picture effect
fades the moon layer in and then out. To keep
the moon visible throughout the scene set the
Dissolve transition duration to 0.9
Add a vignette
To make the moon contrast with the
location click on the lower layer clip. Click on
the Clip filter icon. Choose Vignette. The darker
edges also add extra atmosphere.Cool it down
The Color Temperature slider is
primarily designed to counteract
warm or cool colour casts. You
can also use it creatively to add
a cold blue nocturnal hue to
your day to night conversions.Reduce
brightness
This slider reduces the
overall brightness in our
clip, which helps produce
the look of weaker
reflected sunlight bouncing
off the moon at night.
Add drama
If you use the Day into
Night filter to create a
nocturnal scene then
you won’t be able to
add a vignetted edge
as well, as you can only
use one filter at a time.
By grading the clip
manually we can enjoy
using the Vignette filter
to add drama.Adjust contrast
The Color Correction
panel’s Adjust Contrast
slider enables you to
create darker shadows
and moonlit highlights.
When you drag this
shadow slider left, the
opposing highlight slider
moves an equal distance
to the right.
