For those wanting to work on a song idea on the same device, music Memos
allows you to share the project straight into GarageBand for iOS.

Step-by-step Import song ideas from Music Memos

1

Select a recording
Open the Music Memos app on your iOS
device, go to the library screen and then tap
on the recording that you would like to export.
This will take you to a new screen.

2

Add accompaniment
You are now in your selected song’s
Details screen. Before sharing, try turning on
the smart bass and drum tracks. Press and
hold on the icons to tweak their settings.

3

Share options
Now tap on the blue share button in the
top-right corner to view the options menu.
Provided you have iCloud access, tap the
‘Save to Files’ icon in the menu.

4

Save to Files
The Save to Files pop-up shows three
options. You will open the idea in GarageBand
on your Mac so tap the third option to export
as a project with separate tracks.

7

Open GarageBand
Moving to your Mac, launch GarageBand
and then, in the ‘Choose a Project’ screen,
click ‘Open an existing project...’ or go to
File>Open.

5

Save location
The next prompt asks where you wish to
send the ‘.band project’ file. Tap to select the
folder that you would like to save it to, such as
the Music Memos folder and then tap ‘Save’.

8

Locate and open
In the following window, navigate down
to the iCloud Drive location in the left column.
From here, locate your shared project and then
click ‘Open’.

6

On iCloud
Your recording is saved to iCloud Drive as
a ‘.band project’ compatible with GarageBand.
Open your iOS Files app then navigate to the
selected folder to view your files.

9

Save locally
Prior to your project opening you must
name and save the imported track locally. Click
the ‘Save’ button and the complete project will
open in GarageBand’s workspace.
