Use this feature once and it always works. As soon as you click the Markup
button the image appears on the iPhone or iPad screen.

iOS markup

1

Connect via Bluetooth
Open System Preferences on the Mac
and then open Bluetooth. Turn it on. If you do
not see your iPhone listed, open Settings on
the iPhone/iPad and turn on Bluetooth. You
should be able to connect them.

2

Enable Handoff
Can’t see the iOS connect/disconnect
button? Go to System Preferences>General
and enable ‘Allow Handoff’. The, on your
device, go to Settings>General>AirPlay and
Handoff and enable this feature.

Step-by-step Mark up photos on iOS devices

1

Find some photos
Open a new Finder window and browse
the Mac’s disk. Icons view is good for this.
Find one or more photos that you would like
to view and edit and select one.

4

Edit on iOS
The iPhone or iPad screen turns on and
the photo appears in the Markup feature.
Pinch and spread to zoom out or in, and use
the tools at the bottom to draw.

2

View and markup
Press the spacebar to open the selected
image using Quick Look. There are few
features available here, but in the top right-
hand corner is a Markup button. Click it.

5

Markup and save
If you have an iPad with a Pencil, use it
to draw on the screen otherwise use a finger.
Our finger writing on the iPhone screen is
pretty pathetic, and you can do better!

3

Switch to iOS
The title bar is replaced with a toolbar
in Markup mode and it is identical to the
one in the Preview app. Click the connect/
disconnect iPhone/iPad button on the right.

6

See live updates
The great thing about this feature is that
the Mac shows a live display like a video feed
when you are using the drawing tools on the
iPhone or iPad. Tap ‘Done’ to save it.
